I have particular disdain for those who drop off their furry family members at a shelter, but what about those who are too lazy to drive there? Well, this is a whole new category of scum bags. The Putnam County SPCA is desperately seeking help finding the person who was responsible for abandoning a 5-year-old Yorkie on the side of the road in below-freezing temperatures in Kent, New York last Friday morning. The dog was found in its cage at the intersection of White Pond and Farmers Mills Rd. Thankfully another driver spotted the dog and called the police. Anyone with information should contact the Putnam County SPCA at (845) 520-6915. Apparently, New York law treats dog abandonment as a misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $1,000 and a one-year prison sentence. If you ask us we would like to add a third penalty: put the offender in a cage and leave him in the freezing cold for a few hours!!!!
